Felden Lodge 2008
Wednesday:
Full details of our trip to London and the London Eye to follow.
Tuesday:
The planned visit to the local swimming baths (really to make sure all the boys have washed) was postponed as the Leisure Centre is closed on a Tuesday, programme planning obviously not strong here. However plans were put in place for a shopping trip to Hemel Hempstead. This meant that the boys could arrange pressies to take home for parents/friends. Another football match took place followed by an evening BBQ
Monday:
Visit to Thorpe Park - Amazing!! http://www.thorpepark.com/
Sunday:
The second days Tent Inspection became an interesting contest as Tent 4, who had been keeping the officers awake overnight with a number of melodies until at least 2am, realised that the resulting extra orderly duties limited their time to tidy their luggage and groundsheet. the innovative solution was to put the groundsheet above the luggage, gaining an extra point for originality as this had as far as we know never been done before. The only problem in this theory was that the luggage could not be checked for neatness!! losing at leat 2 points. It's amazing how the thought process suffers when tired!
After the Official Camp Photoshoot we had our Worship Service, followed by games, lunch and then the InterTent Olympics (including a 3 legged race).
Saturday:
After breakfast the boys had their first taste of Tent Inspection. With 4 tents and only 3 mallets to adjust any out of line pegs competition was fierce just to keep hold of the mallets. The usual one liners of " You hold the peg then nod your head and I'll hit it" kept some of the older staff amused but thankfully no one visited the First Aid Officer.
A game of baseball took place after lunch in great overhead conditions. The staff supervising whilst applying large amounts of suncream and drinking lashings of ginger beer, a typically English afternoon.
An evening visit to the local cinema followed to see "Prince Caspian" the latest of the Chronicles of Narnia films. Supper followed with Hippo still wondering how his Rocky became an outsider from a pan loaf!!!! (Watch this space for the video)
Friday:
Both the main party and the "advanced party" reached Felden Lodge safely. The only issue was that the "advanced party" arrived 30 minutes after the boys!!
Once the boys were acclimatised to the location football took place with a 13 a side match and 4 foot high goals, the score after 45 minutes was 16-12, both goalies needing to sharpen their act.
During dinner we were visited by the Brigade Secretary, Steve Dickinson and the Director for Scotland, Tom Boyle.
End of Session Awards
The turnout by all sections was appreciated and the boys receiving awards were extremely proud on the day. I was, as many of you were, disappointed that the gloss was taken from the girls and boys achievements by the necessary but unfortunately timed announcement at the close of the service.
For those of you who spoke to me on Sunday, concerned about the future of the Company and Church, I cannot give much more information than I knew then. It is my intention to find out as much as possible about the situation we as a Company may find ourselves in should, as part of the Presbytery Plan announced last year, Colston Wellpark finds itself in a potential union with another congregation.
Once again on behalf of the staff thank you for your support.
Jim McVean
BB Captain
